
The St. Bernards Medical Center Auxiliary has presented $20,000 in nursing and health professions scholarships to 10 individuals for the coming school year. Auxilians presented eight scholarships to Bachelor of Science in Nursing students, one to a Master of Science in Nursing student and one to a student in the Associate Degree Registered Nurse program. The stipends are designated as Frank Hall Scholarships in honor of the late Frank Hall of Jonesboro who worked with the St. Bernards Development Foundation.
Recipients include Dallas W. Book Jr. of Lake City; Meg Bradley of Jonesboro; Hannah Bruce of Jonesboro; Kayla Hendrix-Burks of Rose Bud; Lori Kercheval of Corning; Sharmaine LaFarlette of Monette; Mable Renee Prunty of Jonesboro; Tracy Stearns of Jonesboro; Erin M. Weeks of Walnut Ridge; and Lisa Weir of Brookland.
Book is a sophomore enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program at Arkansas State University. A graduate of Maynard High School, he is the son of Dallas Book Sr. of Corning and Paula Perrydore of Qulin, Mo.
Bradley is a graduate of Valley View High School in Jonesboro and is a senior in the BSN program at ASU. She is the daughter of Rusty and Jane Bradley and Ralph and Denise Cheshier, all of Jonesboro.
Bruce is a Jonesboro High School graduate who is in the accelerated BSN program at ASU and is working toward a second bachelor’s degree. She is a University of Central Arkansas alumna and is the daughter of Lisa Kemp of Jonesboro and Stephen Bruce of Cherokee Village.
Hendrix-Burks is a senior in the ASU BSN program. A graduate of Rose Bud High School, she is the daughter of David and Carla Hendrix of Joy. Her husband is Ryan Burks.
Kercheval is a senior in the BSN program at ASU. She is a Corning High School graduate and the daughter of Joyce Engle and the late Pete Engle of Peach Orchard. She and her husband, Kevin, have two children, Ali and Ashley.
LaFarlette is a senior in the Associate RN program at ASU and is a graduate of Buffalo Island High School in Monette. She is the daughter of Opal LaFarlette and the late Sherman LaFarlette of Monette.
Prunty is enrolled in master’s level nursing program at ASU and is working toward family nurse practitioner credentialing. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at ASU in 2008. The Jonesboro High School graduate is the daughter of Bobby Joe Taylor and the late Earline Taylor of Jonesboro. She is married to Korreen Prunty Sr.
Stearns, originally from Monette, is a senior in the BSN program at Arkansas State University. She is the daughter of Larry and Jackie Bibb of Monette and Larry and Peggy Vana of Denver, Colo. She is married to Jim Stearns.
Weeks is a graduate of Hillcrest High School in Lynn and a junior in the ASU BSN program. She is the daughter of Mart and Sherri Lynn of Lynn. She and her husband, Ethan, live in Walnut Ridge.
Weir is a junior in the ASU BSN program. She is the daughter of Jimmy and Sue Tucker of Marked Tree. She and her husband, Kurt, live in Brookland.
The Auxiliary has been awarding scholarships to health professions students for more than two decades and has made available about $200,000 in financial assistance over that period of time.
