
Physicians at Jonesboro Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine took part in formal groundbreaking ceremonies for the new St. Bernards Health & Wellness Institute June 15. The orthopaedic clinic will be located in the building when the Institute opens in the fall of 2011.
Drs. Brian G. Dickson, Spencer H. Guinn and Jeremy P. Swymn specialize in all aspects of orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine. The office currently is located at 505 East Matthews, Suite 303, but it will move to a new 6,000-square-foot suite in the Health & Wellness Institute at Lakeshore Drive and Logan Avenue.
Dr. Dickson grew up in Jonesboro and is an Arkansas State University graduate who earned his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. After serving an internship at UAMS, he completed a residency in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa.
Board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, he holds professional memberships in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Southern Orthopaedic Association and the Arkansas Orthopaedic Society.
Dickson and his wife Angie have a 6 year-old daughter. They are members of First Methodist Church.
Dr. Guinn also grew up in Jonesboro. He has earned both a bachelor’s degree and his medical degree from Tulane University in New Orleans. Dr. Guinn also attended the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He completed a residency in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, he holds professional memberships in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and Southern Orthopaedic Association.
Guinn holds the rank of major in the United States Army Reserves and served in the medical corps for 10 years. His military service included serving in Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and 2006. He is a reserve patrolman with the Jonesboro Police Department, where he serves as medical director and medic with the tactical unit (SWAT). He also serves with the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department aviation unit as a tactical medic.
He and his wife Maggie have three daughters. They are members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
Dr. Swymn is a graduate of Greene County Tech in Paragould. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Arkansas State University and his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Campbell Clinic in Memphis where he served as chief resident in 2008. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship with Dr. James Andrews at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Ala.
He is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He holds professional memberships in the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Sports Medicine Fellowship Society and the Arkansas Orthopaedic Society.
Dr. Swymn and his wife Jennifer attend Southwest Church of Christ.
Doctors Dickson, Guinn and Swymn serve as the head team physicians for Arkansas State University Athletics and Williams Baptist College Athletics. They also provide athletic team coverage for Jonesboro, Nettleton, Valley View, Westside, Marion and West Memphis school districts. The doctors are the medical directors for St. Bernard’s Sports Medicine and the ASU athletic training program. They are on faculty at ASU, UAMS and Harding University.
All three physicians are members of Healthcare Medical Group and St. Bernards Healthcare Associated Regional Providers.
Jonesboro Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine has satellite clinics in Wynne and Pocahontas.
